Red carpet reflections

Chad Kroeger breezed through the red carpet, while others, like Elvis Costello and Diana Krall, chatted with major TV outlets before speeding past yours truly. At least Michael Buble, who also shot by, gave reporters an update on the Canucks-Blackhawks game.
The funniest thing about the Junos red carpet is to see how male rock musicians attempt to dress up for a fancy wingding but still maintain their rocker-ness. Some musicians, like the Stills, don't dress up at all: "We're a rock 'n roll band, man." (I don't remember which Still told me this.) Most of the other acts, however, add a dressy element, usually a blazer or an extra-fancy bandana, to their skinny black jeans and T-shirts. The Trews used this approach to good effect.
One of the Stills, who won Best New Group last night, complained about the salmon served at banquet hall, giving it a 3.6 out of 5 and observing that it's hard to make salmon that's not dry when cooking mass quantities of it. I had some of the salmon in question and totally agree.
Rapper Maestro, who was nominated for his first Juno 20 years ago, looked good in a pinstriped suit, which he told me was part of his wardrobe for the show Instant Star. Children's band the Kerplunks wore the matching polka-dot outfits that the band performs in. For what it's worth, I'll give my best-dressed (if not seasonally appropriate) award to Sultans of String leader Chris McKhool, who wore a white linen suit over a red shirt and cowboy boots.
When asked who they were excited about seeing, a lot of young, hip musicians, including Matthew Barber and the Midway State, mentioned Bryan Adams. Say what you want about the "Groover from Vancouver," but there were a lot of us who grew blasting his albums from our tape decks.
Buffy Sainte-Marie says she keeps her Junos and her Oscar in her kitchen in Hawaii.
I don't know how else to put it, but Sarah McLachlan looks like someone who's wealthy.
Final observation: Publicists are like seeing-eye dogs for famous people.
