It is the first of the series about the beloved cartoon ogre to be shot in 3D.
Directed by Mike Mitchel, Shrek Forever After features the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas,
The Tribeca festival, founded in 2001 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff to help revitalize lower Manhattan in the wake of 9/11, announced 34 titles in its 2010 lineup on Thursday.
It will present 85 features from 38 different countries, including 45 world premieres beginning April 21.
The festival plans a sneak preview of a documentary about former New York governor Eliot Spitzer being created by Alex Gibney, the filmmaker behind Taxi to the Dark Side.

He was in the governor's office when he was caught seeing prostitutes, in a public scandal that ruined his career.
The as-yet-untitled documentary explores his story through interviews with friends and enemies.
Also in preview is The Western Front, a documentary by Zachary Iscol, a former U.S. marine who fought in Iraq. Iscol returns to Al Anbar, the same province where he served, to see what war has wrought for the Iraqi people.
The lineup includes the first chance to see a restored print of David Lean's romantic Russian epic Doctor Zhivago, which is being shown on the 45th anniversary of the movie's release.
Films announced for the documentary competition include:
- Son of Perdition, Jennilyn Merten's look at notorious polygamist Warren Jeffs.
- The Two Escobars, by Jeff and Michael Zimbalists, profiles Columbian druglord Pablo Escobar and unrelated countryman Andres Escobar.
In the feature competition are:
- Gainsbourg, Je T'Aime, by Joann Sfar, a biopic of iconic French singer Serge Gainsbourg.
- My Brothers, by Paul Fraser, a funny family story set in Ireland.
- Dog Pound, by Kim Chapiron, about teenagers kept in custody.
Tribeca also has struck a deal with U.S. cable firms to make 12 of its features available through pay-per-view.
