Sopranos creator David Chase to make first feature film

David Chase, the creator of the popular mob drama The Sopranos, has signed a deal to make his first feature film, Paramount Pictures announced Thursday.
No details of the project were offered, except that it will be an "original drama," according to trade magazine The Hollywood Reporter.
It will not be related to The Sopranos, which Paramount also produced.
Chase, who also created Rockford Files and Northern Exposure for TV, likes to keep his ideas under wrap.
He earned both praise and criticism for his mysterious, ground-breaking finale to The Sopranos series in June 2007, which ended with an ambiguous fade to black.
The series earned Chase four Emmys for writing and producing. He directed both the series pilot and the finale.
"David is one of the great storytellers of our time, and his debut as a filmmaker is both highly anticipated and long overdue," Paramount Studios chairman Brad Grey said in a statement.
Born in Mt. Vernon, N.J., Chase wanted to be a rock star but turned to TV writing after his music career fizzled. Before tackling The Sopranos, he created numerous film scripts, but none were ever produced.
