Tim Allen directing his first flick

Last Updated: Monday, March 3, 2008 | 12:53 PM ET

Tim Allen is making his directing debut with an independent comedy called Crazy on the Outside.

Allen will direct and star in the project, an indie adult comedy centred on an ex-con who finds that life beyond bars is much crazier, especially as he enters his sister's world.

Ray Liotta, Carrie-Anne Moss, Julie Bowen and Kelsey Grammer are in negotiations to complete the cast.

Allen has not had any previous directing experience beyond one episode of Home Improvement, a hit sitcom he starred in and which aired on ABC from 1991 to 1999.

Last seen in theatres in 2007 with Wild Hogs, Allen will frequent the big screen in the next three years with Redbelt, The Six Wives of Henry Lefay, and as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 3.
