For over thirty years, Mel Ivarson has run Arctic Air the only way he knows how: his way. An old-school, rugged bush pilot at heart, Mel would rather stay ten thousand feet above the fools, bureaucrats and balance books that plague his days. But he has a soft spot for certain members of his Arctic Air family, even though he'd rather die than admit it. Over the years, Mel has enjoyed being a big fish in a small pond. But that pond is growing, and with growth comes change - including the return of Mel's late partner's son, Bobby, a business savvy smooth-talker from Vancouver. But despite their differences, Mel has been a bit of a surrogate father to Bobby since Silas's death and, though he'd never tell him so, he is glad to have Bobby home.
