Next, students will find and list the major objectives of the Auto Pact, then explore the topic The Auto Pact: En Route to Free Trade and write a brief paragraph to explain whether the intended purposes were achieved in Canada and the United States.
Revisit and Reflect
Have students use their charts and paragraph to answer the following question: "Could Canada have developed its automobile industry to its current levels without the implementation of the Auto Pact in 1964?" Students should support their claims with information from the clips.
The Auto Pact had its greatest impact on industry in Ontario. Ask students: Why was this province so important to the Canadian Auto Industry? Have them research to find explanations.
