Lesson Plan: For Teachers: Canadians Entertain the World
Many Canadians, such as Norman Jewison, have become dominant members of the American entertainment industry. Some of the biggest names in Hollywood hail from Canada and many of them have changed the face of entertainment. Though many have become more American than Canadian, Jewison and others remain proudly and loudly Canadian, returning home frequently and supporting the arts in Canada.
Students will research the life and
career of one famous Canadian entertainer and create a multi-media presentation
about that person. Presentations can include pictures, text, video, original
artwork, audio, and so on.
Presentations should include an assessment of the entertainer's contribution to the entertainment industry and of their contribution, if any, to Canadian culture.
Students should begin at the topic Master Storyteller Norman Jewison on the CBC Digital Archives website. From there, students will choose a famous Canadian entertainer to research. Students may use internet resources and any other sources of information, such as books or video that they find useful. Students should note all resources consulted and cited.
Have students deliver their presentation to the class. Students should be prepared to speak briefly about the life and career of the person they profiled.
