NHL Showdown: Daryl Sittler vs Rick MacLeish
• Daryl Sittler doesn't have his A game in this showdown, but the Toronto Maple Leafs captain was an offensive dynamo and one of the most gifted scorers to ever wear the blue and white. In 1976, he scored a remarkable ten points in one game, a feat never equaled, although Mario Lemieux, Paul Coffey, Wayne Gretzky and Maurice Richard (among others) all managed eight points in one game. In that same season, Sittler also tied the record for most goals in a playoff game, scoring five. • Goalie Glenn (Chico) Resch was an accomplished netminder and fan favourite throughout his 14-year career in the NHL. The Moose Jaw, Sask. native was part of one of the greatest comebacks in pro sports history when the New York Islanders bounced back from a 3-0 deficit in the second round of the 1974-75 playoffs to defeat the Pittsburgh Penguins, and almost duplicated the feat in the next round. The two-time all-star won a Stanley Cup in 1980. • Resch also has the dubious distinction of being one of the few pro athletes ever ejected from a game before the game started. He and Flyers teammate Ed Hospodar took the ice and attacked Montreal Canadiens Claude Lemieux and Shayne Corson after a pre-game skate in 1987.
