Hot Type: Jane Goodall's twin autobiographies

A former English debutante with no formal university education, Jane Goodall was sent into Tanzania's Gombe forest to study chimpanzees in 1960. Now, decades later, she's evolved into a crusader for endangered species and ecological conservation while also revolutionizing the field of primatology. As her autobiographies Reason For Hope and Africa In My Blood hit bookshelves, Goodall discusses finding human qualities in chimpanzees. 
• Goodall's interest in Africa and chimpanzees began in childhood. Her father bought her a stuffed chimp for her second birthday. It was one of her favourite toys, and still sits on a chair in her home in England. Her favourite books included The Jungle Book and The Story of Dr. Dolittle.
• Dr. Goodall is also Dame Goodall: she was named a Dame of the British Empire — the female equivalent of a knighthood — in 2003.
