Expodition: Canada's pavilion at Expo 67

In Canada's centennial year, the city of Montreal played host to the world with Expo 67. "Man and His World" was the theme of the 1967 world's fair, a six-month celebration that drew 50 million ~ visitors to a site on three artificial islands in the St. Lawrence River. Broadcast from Expo's International Broadcasting Centre, Expodition was CBC Radio's daily guide to the pavilions, the people, the pleasures and the problems of Expo 67.

As host nation for Expo 67, it's natural that Canada would have one of the largest pavilions at the world's fair. A single program couldn't hope to do it justice, so CBC Radio's Expodition has spent a week taking listeners inside. In this, the last show devoted to the Canadian pavilion, we visit the popular "People Tree," the Law and Government section, and a display about Canada's rich natural resources.
• The Canadian pavilion reportedly had its highest single-day attendance on July 1, 1967 (the day of Canada's centennial). Visitors to the pavilion on Canada Day enjoyed a slice from a huge birthday cake.
• Toronto architects Rod Robbie, Dick Williams, and Colin Vaughan designed the Canadian pavilion. Robbie would later be one of the designers of the retractable roof on Toronto's Rogers Centre (formerly SkyDome).
