Who is this rookie news anchor?

media clip
• He began his broadcasting career in 1952 at CJCS Radio in Stratford, Ont.

• TV Guide readers voted him the Canada's most trusted TV journalist a record 10 times.

• He was the first journalist inducted in Canada's Walk of Fame, an honour he earned in 2007.

• "And that's the kind of day it's been," was his signature sign-off.
• This young reporter is Lloyd Robertson, a veteran anchor for CTV National News. Robertson began reporting for CBC in 1954. This clip dates from 1970, the year he began anchoring CBC's The National. He held the position until he moved on to CTV in 1976. • Robertson was named an officer of the Order of Canada in 1998. The order citation notes his "insightful coverage" and "ethical standards," as well as his extensive charity work, including telethons for the Hospital for Sick Children and the Terry Fox Run.

• Like all anchors, Robertson made the occasional mistake on air. Looking back on his tenure at The National, he recalls a memorable flub: "Reading the roll-up to the newscast, I was to say 'Lyndon Johnson's plea for peace,' except I said 'pee for peace.' The comes the split-second decision: do you correct yourself or plow ahead? I plowed ahead. Then I looked up and saw the camera jiggling, the cameraman was laughing so hard."

• Robertson signed off from his final show on Thursday Sept. 1, 2011.
