1976 Innsbruck Olympics: Kathy Kreiner

On skates and skis and snowboards, Canadians are nothing short of spectacular. From cocky snowboarder Ross Rebagliati to shy speed skater Gaétan Boucher to prairie girl Sandra Schmirler, Canada has groomed some of the finest winter athletes to take the world stage. CBC Archives presents a selection of Canada's golden winter Olympians.

Greatness in skiing is often determined by how well you stack up against the Europeans. Few have fared well in that respect, but a select group of Canadians have managed to compete successfully against the best the world has to offer. CBC Digital Archives takes a look back at names like Wheeler, Heggtveit, Greene, and of course the remarkable "Crazy Canucks."

Skier Kathy Kreiner is interviewed after her gold-medal run.
