Toronto Blue Jays win baseball's World Series in 1992
After 16 years in the big leagues, the Toronto Blue Jays are on top of the baseball world. Six games into the World Series final, they go 11 innings against the Braves in Atlanta and emerge the winners of Canada's first major league baseball championship. Back in Toronto, fans watching on the big screen at SkyDome charge onto the field and into the streets to celebrate. In this CBC-TV report a day later, the jubilation continues as fans swarm the airport to greet the winning team.
• Fans watching the game at SkyDome -- 45,551 in total -- got in free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis, but were encouraged to donate to the United Way. Two days later fans returned to SkyDome to cheer for the team in a victory rally.
• An estimated 500,000 joyful fans poured into the streets after the win, parading up Yonge Street, waving flags and pennants and honking their car horns late into the night.
• The Blue Jays won the World Series again in 1993, beating the Philadelphia Phillies at home in Toronto.
