Cold Cases: Dale Worthman and Kimberly Lockyer, St. Philip's, N.L. (1993)

They are the heartwrenching stories that shock whole communities, bringing waves of fear and sorrow that can linger for years. Disappearances and unsolved murders devastate Canadian families in all parts of the country, creating anger and suspicions that may never be put to rest. In collaboration with the CBC News series Canadian Cold Case, the CBC Digital Archives presents a collection of stories from unsolved crimes in Canada.

Dale Worthman, 30, and Kimberly Lockyer, 29, have simply vanished without a trace. Their vehicle remains in their driveway, Worthman's wallet and ID on the front seat. Lockyer's purse, with her ID and cash, sits inside the house, and nobody has picked up her last paycheque from the restaurant where she worked. As we see in this 1993 report from CBC-TV's Here and Now three weeks after their disappearance, it's an unusual missing persons case -- and nobody seems willing to discuss the missing couple.
• Dale Worthman and Kimberly Lockyer disappeared from their home in Portugal Cove-St. Philip's, N.L., on Aug. 27, 1993.
  • Their bodies were discovered near a walking trail in July 2006. Autopsies indicated that each had been shot three times in the back of the head.

• In May 2009, Dale Worthman's mother Beryl said that the night before they disappeared, the couple had told her they intended to marry.
