A Common School Calender....

Communities in Yukon have had a strong say in tailoring the school year for their local needs for many years. But that's all changing this fall. The education department says there must be a common school calendar. That's a big issue in Dawson City where the school year ends at the end of May and starts in mid August. Those dates are more in line with seasonal employment and the long hours of daylight.

Val Royle, the deputy minister of Education, will be in Dawson City later this week to talk to people there about the rationale for the changes. But this morning she stopped in to our studio to explain...
