Speaker on highschool students' protest
The Speaker of the Yukon Legislative Assembly is denouncing a protest by students at F.H. Collins High School. David Laxton called their protest disrespectful and disruptive. He wrote a letter to the students about the incident that was sent home.
On Tuesday, Decemeber 4, 2012, students, frustrated by the fact they'll be losing their gym during the reconstruction of their school, showed up to the Legislative Gallery during Question Period, They stood silently in protest. When Laxton asked the students to sit down, they did so for about 15 minutes. Then, when they got up to leave, some ran up and down the stairs of the gallery, before walking out.
