First Nation to fight changes to Yukon's Oil and Gas Act
The chief of the Liard First Nation says he'll do what he must to fight changes to Yukon's Oil and Gas Act. The amendments would repeal section 13 of the Act which requires consent from First Nations without final agreements before any oil and gas activity can occur on traditional territory. Last week in the Yukon Legislature, Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Brad Cathers said the changes would level the playing field for all First Nations. And he hinted the Liard First Nation had tried to leverage more funding from the government over the changes. Liard McMillan, chief of the Liard First Nation, spoke with Sandi from his home in Watson Lake.
