A man who was inadvertently released from custody late last week has been arrested.

Surrey RCMP appealed to the public for help finding Dean Richard Zastowny, 47, who they said was unlawfully at large and believed to be armed and dangerous.

According to RCMP, Burnaby police received a report late Tuesday of a robbery in the 4100 block of North Road.

When police arrived at the scene, the suspect had already fled, so they shared a description with partner agencies.

A few minutes later, Metro Vancouver Transit Police arrested Zastowny at a nearby SkyTrain station.

"A quick response and coordination between partner agencies played a significant role in affecting this arrest. Prolific offenders often move between multiple jurisdictions and therefore sharing information is essential," said RCMP spokesperson, Daniela Panesar.

Zastowny was the subject of a police search in November following his suspected involvement in several violent robberies throughout the Lower Mainland.
