All The Best with Shauntay Grant

Sundays 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Radio One. All the Best is CBC Radio's showcase for Maritime performers. Host Shauntay Grant presents concerts and recordings by artists from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. All the Best presents music ranging from classical and jazz, to singer songwriters and world music. On occasion All the Best will also have a sampling of spoken word, still rooted in the region. Performers range from santor player Saeed Foroughi to jazz songstress Jeri Brown, with classical performances by the best musicians in the Maritimes.

Three East Coast Sessions on All the Best

CBC presented three East Coast Sessions in Studio H in Halifax and All the Best will feature them over the next several weeks... starting with Rhymes and Riffs.  We brought spoken word artists (from left to right) hermitofthewoodsVerena Rizg and Desiree Adams together with Shauntay Grant and the Geordie Haley Trio.  The entire evening rocked with poetry and music collaborations. Tune into All the Best, Sunday at 4 p.m. on CBC Radio One in the Maritimes.

What's better than a work by Mozart on All the Best ?

Two works by Mozart!

And that's just what we have this Sunday.  Join Shauntay Grant as she features Symphony Nova Scotia with guest conductor James Sommerville.  James also picks up the french horn as soloist for Mozarts' Concerto for Horn and Orchestra and then round outs the show with Mozarts' Prague Symphony.

January 29th - Two piano playing composers on All the Best

Two talented piano players who also compose their own music are featured on All the Best this week.  One who is well established in his career and the other is just starting out.

Kim Dunn has 30 years in the music biz and we've got him in concert from a CBC Music Session recorded in Studio H in Halifax.

Later in the show Shauntay Grant will present 14 year old Owen Maitzen.  He's just getting his feet wet but already he's making waves with his playing and his original compositions.

January 22nd - Two PEI singer/songwriters are featured

Two very talented Prince Edward Island musicians are featured this week on All the Best.  First up one of CBC's Music Sessions with singer/songwriter Catherine MacLellan.  Then we sample some of Al Tuck's most recent recording 'Under Your Shadow'.  For All the Best in the Maritimes .... tune in Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. on CBC Radio One.

January 15th - "Diomira" in concert

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for P1011156.JPG This week on All the Best we've got a great performance by "Diomira" - a collaboration between three very talented artists recorded at the Lilian Piercey Concert Hall in Halifax.

Pianist Dinuk Wijeratne teams up with percussionist Nick Halley and accordion player Joseph Petric to perform some of his own original compositions. Wijeratne's works combine classical precision and contemporary improvization, with jazz and middle eastern overtones.  The results are powerful and dynamic.

January 8th - Maritimers with recent CDs

Happy New Year everyone.  We have some wonderful music coming up on this weeks show.  Shauntay will spin a few recent cds featuring talented Maritimers, including Natalie MacMaster with her new CD 'Cape Breton Girl'.  We'll also sample Dylan Guthro's new release and Ria Mae's as well.  And then we'll round out the show with a couple tunes from the Modern Grass Quartet.  Sounds like a great hour of music no matter how you cut it.  Tune in Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. on CBC Radio for 'All the Best' in the Maritimes.

Amelia Curran and Symphony Nova Scotia

Amelia Curran teams up with Symphony Nova Scotia for a concert of her original tunes all arranged for full orchestra.  The result is stunning.  We'll also sample a couple recent Cds ... one by Gypsophilia and another by Bruce Guthro ..... so tune into All the Best with host Shauntay Grant, this Sunday at 4 p.m. on CBC Radio One to hear this collaboration.

December 11th - Holiday fare for everyone

Host Shauntay Grant presents another show filled to the brim with Maritime musicians performing their own original seasonal tunes as well as several old favourites.  As Shauntay says .... "Holiday music never really goes out of style".  From Rose Cousins, to the Barra MacNeils, to a fantastic version of 'My Favourite Things' by Jamie Gatti and the late Doug Riley, there is sure to be something to get you into the holiday spirit.

If you are stuck for a stocking stuffer or just need a little push to get into the holiday spirit, tune into All the Best this week.  Shauntay Grant features several new releases by Maritime musicians that will definitely get you into the right frame of mind.  You'll hear Matt Andersen, Meaghan Smith, Dave Gunning, David Myles and Stephanie Mainville performing well known and well loved traditional Christmas fare as well as several of their own original tunes.
