Over the next couple of weeks All the Best will feature two house concerts showcasing several Maritime singer/songwriters.  The house concert setting is a unique venue that allows the artists and the audience to share a very special intimacy that you just can't experience in a big concert hall.

April 15th you can hear the talents of Norma MacDonald and Ian Sherwood and on April 22nd listen in for Erin Costelo, Molly Thomason and Ashley Condon.

This week on All the Best  the featured concert is with singer/songwriter Ria Mae.  From a CBC 'East Coast Session' Ria Mae tugs at our hearts with her powerful, insightful and reflective writing and singing.  The show will also sample a few cuts from the Barra MacNeils brand new release where they've partnered up with Symphony Nova Scotia.  Join Shauntay Grant this Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. for All the Best in the Maritimes on CBC Radio One.

The second installment of our 'Maritime Musical Families' starts off with the Plaskett family ... Joel and his dad Bill.  Then we dip into Shannon Quinn's CD called 'The Irwin Lake Sessions' where Shannon collaborates with her father Tony bringing their take to several traditional tunes.  And to wrap up the show host Shauntay Grant will feature the Smith family from North Preston ... Rev. Wallace Smith Sr, his son Wallace Smith Jr. and the 3rd generation represented by Reeny Smith.  Tune in Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. for All the Best in the Maritimes.

Over the next two weeks Shauntay Grant will feature just a few of the very talented musical families from the Maritimes.

Tune in Sunday, March 4th to hear from Bruce and son Dylan Guthro, brothers Dani and Sageev Oore, and the entrie Djokic family - mom Lynn Stodola, dad Philippe Djokic and both the kids - Denise and Marc.  That's Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. for All the Best in the Maritimes.

The final installment of our 'East Coast Sessions' features the eclectic band 'The Modern Grass'.  This band blends bluegrass, jazz, blues, country and celtic and the result is fresh and captivating.  The members are Tom Terrell, Andrew Sneddon, Donald MacLellan, Adam Pye and Dan MacCormack.  Video from this session can be viewed on CBC's Download online at http://www.cbc.ca/download/

Multi award winner Jimmy Rankin is featured on All the Best this week.  It's another in our East Coast Sessions recorded in CBC's Studio H.  Recently Jimmy was nominated for 8 East Coast Music Awards and a Juno nomination for Best Country Album as well.  When you hear this performance you'll understand why.  Jimmy is joined by guitar player Jamie Robinson and they perform several tunes from Jimmy's recent cd and a few Rankin Family tunes for good measure.  Part of this concert can be viewed online at http://www.cbc.ca/download/

And that's just what we have this Sunday.  Join Shauntay Grant as she features Symphony Nova Scotia with guest conductor James Sommerville.  James also picks up the french horn as soloist for Mozarts' Concerto for Horn and Orchestra and then round outs the show with Mozarts' Prague Symphony.

Two talented piano players who also compose their own music are featured on All the Best this week.  One who is well established in his career and the other is just starting out.

Kim Dunn has 30 years in the music biz and we've got him in concert from a CBC Music Session recorded in Studio H in Halifax.

Later in the show Shauntay Grant will present 14 year old Owen Maitzen.  He's just getting his feet wet but already he's making waves with his playing and his original compositions.

Two very talented Prince Edward Island musicians are featured this week on All the Best.  First up one of CBC's Music Sessions with singer/songwriter Catherine MacLellan.  Then we sample some of Al Tuck's most recent recording 'Under Your Shadow'.  For All the Best in the Maritimes .... tune in Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. on CBC Radio One.

This week on All the Best we've got a great performance by "Diomira" - a collaboration between three very talented artists recorded at the Lilian Piercey Concert Hall in Halifax.

Pianist Dinuk Wijeratne teams up with percussionist Nick Halley and accordion player Joseph Petric to perform some of his own original compositions. Wijeratne's works combine classical precision and contemporary improvization, with jazz and middle eastern overtones.  The results are powerful and dynamic.

Host Shauntay Grant presents another show filled to the brim with Maritime musicians performing their own original seasonal tunes as well as several old favourites.  As Shauntay says ....
