Dr. Mike Evans: when fatigue requires a doctor

drmike.jpg
If you wake up tired some mornings, you're not alone. Most of us have at some point suffered from fatigue, be it mental or muscular.  But some people have such severe fatigue that it merits a trip to the doctor's office.

It's hard to tell the difference between chronic, medical fatigue and the normal sleepiness so many of us often feel.  So we've called on our house doctor, Dr.Mike Evans.

Vegan Secret Supper

VeganSecretSupper.jpgMérida Anderson didn't like the options for vegan dining so she decided to do do it herself. Starting from her hometown of Vancouver, she hosts "Secret Suppers" or pop-up restaurants that open for one one night and reservations are a must.  From Vancouver, Mérida went to Brooklyn and then came to Montreal.

Her new book Vegan Secret Supper features menus with recipes from her events including butternut squash gnocchi with almond butter and avocado-mint ice cream. Mérida spoke with Sonali Karnick about the "Secret Supper" concept and what she wanted to get across with the recipes in the book.

The Coobook Club tackles quinoa

quinoa Cookbook good.jpg
This week our Cookbook Club got familiar with an ancient grain.  Linda Santo and Karen Delage tested out "The Vegetarian's Complete Quinoa Cookbook" from the Ontario Home Economics Association, edited by Marilyn Smith.

If you've never had quinoa before, it's origins are in South America and it's one of the trendiest foods right now because of its high protein, low-fat and gluten-free content.  From brownies to quiche to salads, our All is a Weekend cookbook club members got to know the many uses for quinoa over the last few weeks.

Linda is retired and lives in Sutton where she and her husband tested out the recipes. Karen just opened a new café in Montreal and tried out some of the recipes there on her customers.

They spoke with Sonali Karnick about how their recipes turned out and whether they think this cookbook is a good buy.
