Dr Réjean Thomas on World AIDS Day

Today is World AIDS day. It's estimated that 34 million people are living with AIDS worldwide, with about 18,000 people living with HIV in Quebec.
The good news is that once they're treated, more than 90 percent of them significantly reduce their risk of transmitting HIV. The not-so-good news is that less than half of them go for regular follow-up and treatment.

Dr.Réjean Thomas is the president and co-founder of Clinique Medicale L'Actuel which tests for and treats sexually transmitted diseases.  The Clinic recently opened a free, drop-in screening clinic in Montreal called L'Actuel sur rue.

Dr. Thomas spoke with Sonali Karnick about the stakes.

(Later today, he'll be taking part in a discussion about AIDS at Usine C. Click here, for more information on the event.)
