Pumpkin parade: second life for jack-o'-lanterns

Pumpkin Parade poster.jpgIt seems we start decorating for Halloween earlier and earlier each fall. Now families in Outremont will be extending the life of their jack-o'-lanterns one more day.

On November 1st, there will be a Pumpkin Parade. But it's as much about the environment as it is a family activity for Halloween.

Two of the organizers of the new Pumpkin Parade join Sonali Karnick in-studio.

Sandra Abi-Rashed is the person who came up with the idea. Claire-Isabelle Mauffette is one of the founders of Outremont en famille, which put it all together.

Picking pumpkins at Quinn Farm

Pumpkins.jpgThanksgiving weekend is the busiest time of the year for the Quinn Farm on Ile Perrot. People come for what's left of the apple harvest - the Halloween pumpkins - and the squash. And the kids come for the wagon rides and farm animals - not to mention the baked goods.

Phil Quinn is the co-owner and manager of the family farm. He's been up all night making apple and pumpkin muffins for the crowd. But he's up and ready to tell Sonali Karnick all about his pumpkin and squash patches.

Truth or Lie at the Montreal Science Centre

Truth or Lie.jpgMaybe that lucky charm isn't really lucky.  The difference between fact and fiction isn't always clear but a new exhibit at Montreal's Science Centre aims to debunk a few myths and reveal a few illusions.
Martin Carli is the co-host of the award-winning TV show "Génial", a game show that demystified science of the everyday on Télé-Quebec.  He also happens to have his PhD in medicine from the Université de Montréal in neuroscience and he's a former science teacher.  Oh and in his spare time, he's a magician. Martin was part of the group that created the exhibit. Sonali Karnick with him at the exhibit to get the real story...or was it??
