Escaping the Iron Curtain: hockey players in NHL
Speed, scoring and strength were how the Stasny brothers made their name in the National Hockey League in the 1980's and became a sensation but the hard work on the ice was nothing compared to what they risked to escape from their country - then communist Czechoslovakia.
The Stasnys were part of a group of hockey players who sacrificed their own safety and that of their families back home.
Tal Pinchevsky is the author of a new book called "Breakaway: from behind the Iron Curtain to the NHL. The untold story of Hockey's greatest escapes." He spoke with Sonali Karnick about some of the incredible stories of players who defected to North America.
