Famine in the Horn of Africa
The UN has declared a state of famine in two regions of Somalia.
The international body says a severe drought affecting 11.5-million people throughout East Africa had degenerated into famine, and that tens of thousands of Somalis have already died.
On July 22, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said 1.6 billion dollars is needed. But so far, international donors have only given about half that amount.
