Silkken Laumann show love to The Royal

Today, the Ottawa electro-dance band Silkken Laumann released their first single On The Mend. The video was shot last August by Tyler Reekie as part of an analogue video project commissioned by the SAW Video Media Art Centre.

You can download On The Mend for free, or give a donation to The Royal in exchange. Here's guitarist Rolf Klausener on why they decided to use their first single to support mental health.

"Over the last few years, we've become really aware how prevalent mental illness is, and how it affects not just those coping with it, but their loved ones as well.
It sounds kind of silly, but dancing can be a really inexpensive form of therapy; I know it's definitely been a balm to us in our own lives, and probably why we're out dancing a least 2 or 3 times a month. So with Silkken Laumann, we're looking to make the kind of music we want to dance to, and hopefully inspire a little joy in others too. You can get info on how to donate and download the song at our website: silkkenlaumann.com"

Congrats to Ottawa's Canadian Culinary Champions

LEPINE_FINALEcgardiner-0393.jpgOttawa chef Marc Lepine and his kitchen crew from Atelier Restaurant triumphed at the Canadian Culinary Championship over the weekend.

It was the first time an Ottawa chef earned the overall title. In fact, Team Atelier placed first in all three of the events they competed in: the mystery wine pairing, the black box, and the grande finale.

Here's a play-by-play of Atelier's performance at the Canadian Culinary Championships.

Political Panel, Feb 10: When the boss is away...

While Prime Minister Stephen Harper was busy in China this week, negotiating business deals, the House was bursting with babies (well, not quite, but all the kerfuffle would suggest so), and backbenchers were shooting their mouths off on topics ranging from "holy" fighter jets to the idea of shooting over the heads of criminals...Julie and Rob joined us, as usual, to sort through the week in politics.
