D is for Dinner: the Happy Chef in Kingston

happychef.jpgHe calls himself the "Happy Chef", but "happy eater" could describe the people who get to eat the creations of chef Jack Francis. Those folks include all sorts of musicians, as Francis cooks for the Bathouse Studio, owned by the Tragically Hip.

At the studio recently, Francis showed Alan how to make a very pretty salad -- you can find the recipe here.

D is for Dinner: the pizza-making skills of grade 10s at Longfields-Davidson Heights

pizza.jpgThis week on D is for Dinner, we visited the grade 10 culinary arts class at Longfields-Davidson Heights secondary school, run by chef Kent van Dyk. They're gearing up for their annual "Food for Thought" fundraiser, where they, under the direction of a several local chefs, prepare a pretty fancy meal to benefit the Parkdale Food Centre. It takes place on January 30 -- if you want tickets, call Jane Lovsin at 613-843-7722 x2005.

As preparation, pizza-making is a pretty good team-building exercise. That's what was happening as we visited the school today -- and you get can their recipes for ricotta, sauce and dough over here.
