Should Jockvale bridge construction be held up by nesting swallows?

It looks as if the planned demolition of the Jockvale Bridge could be delayed. Construction crews are in the midst of widening Jockvale Road -- making it four lanes, instead of two. And part of that project involves replacing the old two-lane Jockvale Bridge with two new bridges.

But yesterday evening, city councillors got an update from a city staffer:

"We were informed today by the Ministry of Natural Resources that as a result of the discovery of Barn Swallow nests on the old Jockvale Bridge, we will not be able to proceed with its demolition until early September."

Jan Harder is the councillor for Barrhaven, and we reached her for her reaction.
