Softball makes its pitch for an Olympic return

mackin.JPGThe Canadian national softball team began its training camp a week or so ago. But yesterday, officials with the sport had all eyes on the 2020 season. The International Olympic Committee plans to add a sport to the 2020 Olympics, and yesterday it voted on a shortlist of three sports: wrestling, squash and a combined pitch from baseball and softball. But only one will make the cut for 2020.The I-O-C makes its final decision in September.

Softball got dropped from the Olympic roster after the 2008 summer games. And Robin Mackin pitched for Canada at those games in Beijing. These days she's an assistant coach with the University of Ottawa's varsity team, as well as a volunteer with an Under-14 girls team in Stittsville, and she joined us to make her pitch for softball at the Olympics.
