Though community members and developers have been speaking out against it, 'Section 37' got a thumbs up from the city's planning committee at a meeting today. It will allow developers to put up taller buildings with more density -- but when they do, they'll have to build in benefits for the surrounding community (think public parks, space for daycares, or cash payments for affordable housing). The problem is that community groups see too many loopholes that favour developers, and developers see it as an additional tax. We put their concerns to Councillor Peter Hume, the Chair of the city's Planning Committee.
