Drum roll please: the winner of our songwriting contest is...

ambre.JPGTonight (Friday) at 8:30, Alan will be hosting the Songwriters Circle at the Ottawa International Writers Festival featuring Emm Gryner, Matt Barber, Ann Vriend, Louise Burns, AND....the winner of the All In A Day songwriting competition.

For those of you who haven't been following the competition, we asked listeners to write us a song with words picked by the songwriters circle performers. Louise wanted the word "rapscallion" included, Ann called for any version of the word "by", Matt said "light", and Emm chose a lemur from Madagascar called the "aye aye" (er, thanks Emm...).

We received just under 50 amazing entries, and our judges had to narrow it down to four: AM Gillis' "Stones", Ambre McLean's "So Over", Brett Maclean's "Devil And The Aye Aye", and Julia Finnegan's "Oblivious".Then we asked listeners to vote on a winner. Almost 500 listeners voted in 35 minutes!

So the winner is...
Ambre McLean's "So Over", which she described as a song "written from the perspective of a young female aye- aye. Rejecting the promiscuous ways of the typical lemur she is hoping to find her one true love, but instead finds only heartbreak." You can listen to the song here:

Congrats to Ambre, and to all our talented songwriting listeners! You can see Ambre perform her song tonight, as well as of course Emm, Matt, Ann, and Louise...It all happens at 8:30 at Knox Presbyterian Church (120 Lisgar). Go here for tickets, and we hope to see you there!
