Summer food column: when it's too hot to cook

This summer has been somewhat of an endless heat wave in Ottawa so far, and if you don't have an air conditioner, your oven might be feeling a little lonely these days.

If your kitchen is too hot before you even turn on a burner, perhaps it's time for even the most committed home cooks out there to take a break. In the past, take-out options were limited to mostly pizza and burgers. But these days a new crop of food shops is sweeping the capital and helping to take the dread out of dinner.

Our summer food columnist Shawna Wagman joined us to tell us about what's happening in the world of take-home meals.

These are some of the businesses Shawna mentions as examples of the growing take-out scene: Farm Boy, Red Apron, Scratch Kitchen, Bryson Farms, Murray's Market, Mrs. McGarrigle's Fine Food Shop, and Castlegarth.
