Vanier 311 -- snitching or preventative action?
Last year, the city fielded about 75-thousands calls to the 311 line -- that's the line for complaints about the neighbour's barking dog, a bylaw infraction, the car parked illegally on the street...Thing is, each of these phone calls costs money to investigate. And some people, like Councillor Rick Chiarelli, are urging people to maybe just try talking to their neighbours before they call 311 to snitch on them.
But there are some communities where calling 311 has had a positive impact --- like Vanier. Lucie Marleau is with Eyes on Vanier, a group that organizes regular community walks, and Elaine Leger is with the Vanier community association, and has lived in Vanier for more than 30 years. Both joined Stu in studio on Tuesday to talk about how 311 has helped clean up the community.
