Bringing parents to Canada
Canadians waiting to bring their parents to live in Canada may have to wait even longer. Immigration Minister Jason Kenney has announced plans to reduce family reunification visas,
and new figures obtained through Access to Information suggest the federal government is hoping to cut overall immigration by five percent this year.
Amir Attaran faces a 60-month-wait for his parents' application to be processed. On Monday, he held a press conference to talk about the complaint he's launched against Citizenship and Immigration Canada. He filed it with the Canadian Human Rights Commission. Amir is a professor of law and medicine at the University of Ottawa, and he joined us on the show to talk about why he thinks his parents shouldn't have to face such a long wait to come to Canada.
