Canadian Army News Reels

Michael Spencer.jpgWhen World War Two broke out, Michael Spencer was a young Brit, making documentaries with Crawley Films in Ottawa. In 1941, he joined the war effort as an editor with the Canadian Film and Photo Unit. Throughout its history, the film unit produced 106 Canadian Army News Reels. During World War Two, these reels screened in movie theatres across Canada. Tonight at 7 p.m., The Mayfair Theatre will screen some of the restored news reels. The War Amps just released a DVD Box Set of the restored Canadian Army News Reels.
