Greetings to you,
Election Day is upon us and I voted.
I have been listening to comments on CBC radio 10:10 am on the dial while Albertans from north to south have called in and I listened to their comments about feeling obligated to vote to issues that they felt strongly about and some nailed some of my concerns in the process.
In 2004 the PCs did research on alternative energy sources and settled on Wind Energy added to Hydro Electric Power, and Solar Energy. In 2007 the PCs decided on Nuclear Energy to produce electricity to extract the oil out of the oil sands. That was a very bad decision. The PCs Regionalized Health Care and now there is three times as many mid managers and fewer support staff. The PCs have Privatized Road construction and accepted the lowest bids to get the work done. Today the roads are breaking down, the contractor is long gone and Alberta people are being killed on Alberta roads around Edmonton and nobody is responsible to fix the roads.
This time of year Parties are looking for our votes - they get them and then turn and cater to big business and ignore the voter.
I heard about some changes to government that would make it work better: 1.Vote for the Political Party not the Candidate. 2. When voting on something like Nuclear Power, let everyone vote free and if the government loses the vote then no Nuclear Power and the government does not have to call an election. How many times is an elected representative told to vote contrary to what his constituents want?
I could not vote PC and will not vote Liberal or NDP. That left Wild Rose Alliance, Social Credit and Green Parties. NO SC candidate in Strathmore/Brooks so that left Wild Rose and Green Parties.
I would like to see a 95% voter turn out to see what the preference of Albertans is.
Political observers in Alberta are calling it remarkable and opposition politicians are wondering what hit them after Ed Stelmach guided his Conservative party Monday to one of its biggest majorities ever.
As Premier Ed Stelmach and Alberta Conservatives savour their sweeping election victory, some people are raising a nagging concern: why so few people bothered to vote.
Voters in Alberta stuck with tried-and-true blue, giving the Progressive Conservative party an unprecedented 11th consecutive majority government in Monday's provincial election.
