Listening to the leaders' debate it appears that 1) there are only 3 parties - the Liberals and NDP have the same views - 2) we are drastically short of leadership skill - none of the party leaders are capable of intelligent debate much less leading Alberta, 3) the Conservatives haven't had a new idea since Ralph Klein's first election as premier and 4) Mr. Stelmach is more of a socialist than Mr. Mason but Mr. Mason is honest about it. Let's hope for a short-lived minority government that will give these parties a chance to build realistic strategies and elect leaders worthy of the premier's office. I think Albertans need to vote by throwing a dart at the ballot and putting an "x" by the closest candidate. We sure don't want to give any of these guys sufficient support to make them think they should lead this province for the next four years.
Political observers in Alberta are calling it remarkable and opposition politicians are wondering what hit them after Ed Stelmach guided his Conservative party Monday to one of its biggest majorities ever.
As Premier Ed Stelmach and Alberta Conservatives savour their sweeping election victory, some people are raising a nagging concern: why so few people bothered to vote.
Voters in Alberta stuck with tried-and-true blue, giving the Progressive Conservative party an unprecedented 11th consecutive majority government in Monday's provincial election.
