That's interesting. I actually thought Melnyk came across as the one whose resume was quite limp. Her message and website seems to be mainly focused on complaining about the PCs as opposed showing some original thought.

Even the government seems rather apathetic about this election - has any checked the elections alberta website to find out where you vote? The 'look up your poll' link is down. But I hear that when it is up, it still doesn't help because it doesn't actually tell you where to vote.
If I can find out where to vote, I may actually do so.

Woo-Paw seems to have a great resume, however I do not see any indication that she is actually a conservative. She would seem to be a excellent candidate for the NDP or Liberals. I have voted for the PC's my entire life, however I can not support them this time due to my belief that the party has no direction right now.

I was at the candidates debate last Monday. It seemed Teresa Woo-Paw did not come prepared. She skirted around several answers, even denying that the PC party had an environmental policy! Funny enough, Tianna Melnyk informed the crowd of the PC's policy (which is not very good). Also strange was that a spokesperson was sent in place of Rob Gregory. From the debate alone, it seems that the strongest candidate is Melnyk.

Dan,
Woo-Paw asked the minister of education to dissolve the Calgary Board of Education board because the board was dysfunctional according to Woo-Paw. The chair of CBE cannot fire fellow trustees because they are all publicly elected. I remembered three of the seven trustees at the time were passing hand written notes during board meetings with derogative comments about Woo-Paw. How can the chair of the board operate effectively with these kinds of childish behaviors without the real power of the chair. If I remember correctly, some of the contents of these notes reviewed by the media were racially motivated. I have worked in places where people can work with people of colour but they cannot accept them as their leaders. I think this was the root of the problems at the time.

My interest in this riding focusses on Teresa Woo-Paw. She is certainly a great public servant, but her website fails to point out that when she was the chair of the CBE board of trustees that she asked the Minister of Learning, Lyle Oberg, to dissolve the board. Now, here we are almost ten years later and we see that Woo-Paw is running for the PCs. It just makes me wonder, despite the good she has done, what are her motives and why wasn't she able to reign in her board?
Here's a bit of an electoral oddity I discovered. This is my first provincial election at my new home and I was looking for where I go to vote. I'm in poll 016 of Calgary MacKay and after reading the maps in my Calgary Election Guide (no small feat in itself) I saw that I vote at Berskshire Citadel Community Church. To get there, I will walk past Simon's Valley Elementary School where I voted in the municipal election, but no big deal...except that this school is also a provincial polling station! I will be walking past the polling station closest to my home to get to the station where I will vote. Interesting to note that the people voting at the station closest to my home (Simon's Valley School) are also going to be going past the station closest to their homes-Berkshire Citadel Community Church! How silly is that?

Political observers in Alberta are calling it remarkable and opposition politicians are wondering what hit them after Ed Stelmach guided his Conservative party Monday to one of its biggest majorities ever.
As Premier Ed Stelmach and Alberta Conservatives savour their sweeping election victory, some people are raising a nagging concern: why so few people bothered to vote.
Voters in Alberta stuck with tried-and-true blue, giving the Progressive Conservative party an unprecedented 11th consecutive majority government in Monday's provincial election.
