The more things change...

For a party so intent on presenting an image of change, I was really surprised to see so many old familiar faces at Monday's throne speech.
Front and centre greeting Ed Stelmach when he walked out of his office to meet the lieutenant governor were a gaggle of Tory consultants who cut their teeth on the ways of getting government contracts during the Ralph Klein years.
Tim Wade, former executive assistant to Pat Nelson and Jeremy Chorney, now running Fred Horne's campaign, were glad-handing with their former colleague, Ken Faulkner, who now runs Stelmach's Calgary office, just moments before the writ was dropped.
At the end of the election call flurry, Stelmach surrounded himself with his candidates — most of which are carry-overs from the previous administration. He posed for pictures and gave a big thumbs up to the crowd. Behind me, two women were chatting and saying: "He's got to win it in the coffee shops. That's where he's going to win it." We'll see.
