In search of an identity...

Alberta seems to always have had a rather unique identity – at least as long as I’ve been paying attention.
We’ve always been the “up and coming Maverick” kind of place. We’re not a perfect province, but we get stuff done. We break a few rules along the way, but come out looking good. For 14 years we were led by a rather colourful person whose personality permeated much of what Alberta was. Now, Ralph Klein didn’t do everything right – he made his share of mistakes – but he brought life and an identity to the province.
Ed Stelmach might be doing a great job – or he might not. It’s hard to tell, because you just don’t really hear that much about him. It’s almost “Ed Stelmach who?”
It obviously takes more than personality to run a province, but I hate that Alberta is becoming more and more like porridge. I’d love a premier who’s not afraid of using a bit of character and personality to get the job done, who’s not afraid of creating a little reaction just to get the place buzzing again.
