Accentuate the positive

On the positive side ...
One thing I hate about election time is the negativity that abounds. All we hear about is what’s broken, and what everyone’s done wrong – or still doing wrong – to fix it.
The truth is most of us take for granted the freedoms and opportunities we have in this country that people in many other countries can’t even imagine.
Alberta is a fantastic place to live. As someone who’s experienced life in a number of different countries as an ordinary resident — i.e. NOT as an ex-pat — I think it’s important to see this election through the eyes of people who are truly blessed to be living in our kind of economy, with our kinds of freedoms and support systems.
Yes, we have work to do, but the solutions aren’t simple – we’re a vastly diverse group of people. Meeting everyone’s needs is not as easy as some of our prospective leaders want to make us think. Just think of how hard it is to make everything run smoothly in your own family. Trying to make everyone happy on a scale as big as our province without people falling through the cracks is nigh impossible.
So, while everyone’s out there tearing down this province and telling us all about what’s broken, let’s put it in the perspective of the whole picture. Alberta is, at the end of the day, a pretty great place to live.
