Political History:
This riding, created in 1993, was held by the Liberals before it elected Conservative Mark Norris MLA in 2001. Norris chalked up a 1,000-vote win over incumbent Nancy MacBeth, the then-Liberal leader. MacBeth had won her seat in a 1998 byelection, having assumed the Liberal leadership and the riding from Grant Mitchell. Mitchell had been an MLA since 1986, first in Edmonton-Meadowlark and then, following the 1993 redistribution, in Edmonton-McClung. Tory Gerry Amerongen held Edmonton-Meadowlark from 1971-86.

In 2001, voter turnout was 56 per cent.
