Scary weekend produced two horror classics

One weekend almost 200 years ago, a group of friends decided to try to scare the pants off each other by holding their own ghost story contest.

What a contest it was.

Mary Shelly wrote Frankenstein during that weekend, and John Polidori wrote The Vampyre, a short story that charted the course for all future vampire tales.

Robert Morrison is a professor at Queen's University, and the author of The Vampyre And Other Tales Of The Macabre.
