Season 3: "The Museum of Persuasion"

Airs on Radio One:

Saturday, 6 June 2009 4:30 pm

Anyone remember subtlety in advertising? Or longform ads with irresistible prose? Or the quaint, old-fashioned jingles that were once the mainstay of national advertising. Terry O'Reilly has collected them in a magnificent new Museum of Persuasion. And he's just itchin' to take you on a tour. He'll offer a nostalgic look at ways advertising has reached people in the past, and show how it points to where the craft of persuasion is headed.

The site is www.achive.org. I was able to find some old GE ads but not the one with the stuck door.

Where did the very funny erotic book sale ad come from? Any chance to listen to it again somewhere?

For that matter, how does one find any of the ads that can be heard on the age of persuasion for a second or third listening?

Leo Brooks, June 1, 2009 10:29 PM

It's archive.org

Jeremy, June 3, 2009 2:37 AM

I believe the site mentioned was www.archives.org but when I went to that site all I got from a variety of searches for the Westinghhouse fridge ad starring Joan ______, was links to modern internet advertising ads? Could CBC provide a specific link to the 1950s ad mentioned in the show?
