Our Voices

Young Quebec natives tell their own funny, poignant and moving stories through a series of short films about important aspects of their lives; their land, culture, music and identity. We meet the filmmakers in their own homes and on their own terms.

 
Some of the films included in this episode:
 
  • A film by a teenage aboriginal mother about her life as a very young mother
  • A documentary about the loss of life due to car accidents in a community in Northern Quebec living along a highway built by a mining company
  • A story of hope from a disabled aboriginal man whose film about his own life turned the attitudes of his community around
  • One family's reflexion on the languages they speak through four generations.

Love, Props and the T. Dot

Love, Props and the T.Dot documents Toronto's hip hop movement; from a misunderstood musical genre to a major international and cultural force.

Hip hop in Toronto brought communities together - artists, supporters and fans - to express a unique urban voice. This is their story, 25 years in the making, in their own words and music.

This one hour documentary features live footage from CBC's Hip Hop Summit this Spring; when Toronto played host to one of the most magical hip hop events in Canada including an unforgettable concert where legendary pioneers of the musical genre took the stage with today's hottest hip hop artists.

The documentary also includes interviews with the innovators and trailblazers who paved the way- Ghetto Concept, Maestro Fresh Wes,

Michee Mee, Shad, Kardinal Offishall, Beat Factory Records' legendary hip hop producer/manager Ivan Berry, Choclair, Saukrates, CKLN's Ron Nelson, DJ and host of the influential radio show Fantastic Voyage, LA Luv, k-os and more.
