MacMillan has served as the managing editor of the bureau since 1981. She has reported on a variety of events for CBC, including the royal weddings, the death of Princess Diana, major anniversaries of the Second World War and peace efforts in Northern Ireland and several other prominent European stories.
She first joined CBC in 1972 as the co-host of New Directions, a weekly program about senior citizens. She then left CBC and held a variety positions with Global Television and CTV before signing back on with CBC as a correspondent and producer for The Journal.
