Music Hop was aimed at young Canadians and featured singers, dancers and instrumentalists on the program five days a week from Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax. The program was a similar idea to
American Bandstand, with a mix of pop and rock music. The show encompassed titles from each city: Monday was
Let's Go from Vancouver, Tuesday was
Jeunesse Oblige from Montreal, Wednesday was
Hootenanny from Winnipeg, Thursday was the original
Music Hop from Toronto and Friday was
Frank's Bandstand from Halifax. It aired from 1963-1967.
Alex Trebek served as host during its first season. It was later hosted by Dave Mickie. The hosts would typically introduce guest musicians and its series of regular performers while the teens in the audience danced.
