Canada's pioneer station
A multi-layered coverage map of CBLT was included in 1959 marketing material sent out to potential advertisers.
On the first page of the flyer, the document boasts that CBLT is "Canada's pioneer station, the first TV station in Canada."
"The priceless advantage of CBLT's traditional leadership, high standards of programming, sincerity of purpose - is available to local and national advertisers," the document says. "Only in this way can you ensure the effectiveness of your advertising in Canada's No. 1 market."
The map shows that CBLT Channel 6 Toronto served a local market of about 1.56 million people in 1959 or 390,000 households, of which 350,000 had televisions. Its entire coverage area allowed it to reach a population of about 3.5 million people or about 802,000 homes with televsision sets.
CBLT - or CBC Toronto - continues to operate, serving the city and its outlying areas. It is the oldest television station in Ontario and the second oldest in Canada.
