CBC grants Canadians an exclusive all-access pass to 46664 Concert Honouring Nelson Mandela at 90

On Friday, June 27, CBC celebrates the 90th birthday of former South African leader and worldwide icon, Nelson Mandela.

The concert, 46664 Concert Honouring Nelson Mandela at 90, was named after Mandela's former prison number 46664.

Experience this historic event exclusively on CBC Television, CBC's digital channel bold, CBC Radio or here on CBC.ca/46664. CBC's coverage of 46664 CONCERT begins on Friday, June 27 and continues into the summer marking Mandela's actual birthday on Friday, July 18.

Star-studded line-up

Actor Will Smith hosts 46664 CONCERT, welcoming an extraordinary roster of artists to the stage. Special guests include Prince William and Prince Harry, former U.S. president Bill Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton. Artists appearing include Amy Winehouse, Josh Groban, Queen + Paul Rodgers, Annie Lennox, Leona Lewis, Sugababes, Razorlight, Soweto Gospel Choir, Simple Minds, Dame Shirley Bassey, Joan Baez, among many others.

More than a dozen of Africa's most highly regarded artists, including Johnny Clegg and Papa Wemba, will also perform in honour of Mandela's birthday. Proceeds from the event will support Mandela's AIDS charity 46664.

Broadcast details

CBC Television will air concert highlights on Friday, June 27, at 7:30pm (8pm NT), with shared coverage on CBC Radio 2 and streaming on CBC.ca/mandela. The concert will air in its entirety on bold on Saturday, June 28, at 1 pm ET and 10 pm ET, and will be available on CBC.ca until Sunday, July 27.
