"I hope we can begin the healing": Kerry

WASHINGTON - Democratic Senator John Kerry said he hopes the nation can begin to heal as he conceded defeat to President George W. Bush Wednesday in the U.S. election.

Speaking to a crowd of supporters in Boston, an emotional Kerry said he called Bush earlier to congratulate him on his victory, telling him there is a "desperate need for unity."

"Today, I hope we can begin the healing," he said.
